Government Software Maker Takes Aim at Civilian Files
Potomac Tech Journal, July 11, 2001
Communication Technologies, Inc., a software design company with a 10-year track record selling security products to government agencies and the military, has turned its attention to the private sector. The firm is about to mount a marketing campaign for a new security tool that deletes files from hard drives. No*TraceTM, as the product is called, could be looked upon as the high-tech equivalent of the "Mission Impossible" self-destruct audio-tape burnings.
Making Sensitive Info Disappear
Digital Edge, July, 2001
Many of us carry laptops everywhere. And on those laptop hard drives we keep hundreds, if not thousands, of files including company documents, spreadsheets, price quotes, proposals, and personal data. So how do you keep sensitive files from getting into the hands of thieves? Enter Communication Technologies, Inc. with their software product called No*Trace. It completely wipes out selected files or directories when you hit a series of hot keys or when someone passes a set number of login failures. The "hot key" idea would work for military types who wanted to destroy material before capture. Wonder if the P-3 crew forced on Hainan Island had software like this on any of their machines?

Sensitive data that requires purging can easily be forgotten. Now the problem with this is what happens if your machine is stolen or someone hacks in to get the data? Well, if you install No*TraceTM you should never find yourself looking down the barrel of that gun. This small but powerful software tool removes proprietary data at the touch of a button and when it´s gone, it´s gone.
